Cline is a VS Code extension that runs as an autonomous coding agent. It supports remote MCP servers through cline_mcp_settings.json, stored in VS Code’s global storage. Perfai Cloud is a remote server and authentication is a custom Bearer header.
Cline is BYOK (bring your own key) — there’s no Claude Pro subscription bypass. Live agent turns need a real paid model API key, or a free local model via Ollama.

Get an API key

Perfai Cloud authenticates Cline with a Perfai API key. Create one and copy it — Perfai shows the full key only once. You’ll paste it into cline_mcp_settings.json as Bearer pfk_xxxxxxxxxxxx_....

Installation

  1. In VS Code, click the Cline icon in the sidebar.
  2. Click the MCP Servers icon at the top of the Cline panel.
  3. Open the Installed tab and click Configure MCP Servers — this opens cline_mcp_settings.json directly in the editor.
  4. Add (or merge) the following:
  1. Save the file. Cline picks up the change automatically — no restart needed.

Verify the server is connected

  1. Open the MCP Servers panel in Cline.
  2. Look for perfai-cloud under the Installed tab with a green/active status and 19 tools listed.
  3. If it fails to connect, re-check that the Authorization header is Bearer followed by the full key, with no trailing whitespace. A 401 means the key has expired or been revoked — create a new one and update the config.

Confirm you’re signed in

The API key signs you in — there is no separate login step. Every tool call runs as the user who created the key, with that user’s organizations and role. In Cline’s chat, type:
It answers with the key’s id (pfk_xxxxxxxxxxxx_…), never the secret. If a tool call fails with 401, the key has expired or been revoked — create a new one and update the connector.
